How StudySwaps works

StudySwaps is a second-hand marketplace for verified students in Nepal. We sit between buyer and seller: we collect each item and deliver it, so you never have to meet a stranger or share your address. Here is how it works for buyers and sellers, what it costs and how we keep it safe.

From browsing to your door, in five steps.

  1. Browse

    Find books, laptops, furniture, hostel items and more from verified students. Browse everything or start with your city.

  2. Add to cart

    Check the photos, description and condition label, then add the item to your cart. Second-hand items are usually one of a kind, so once an item is paid for it is reserved for you and removed from sale.

  3. Pay with eSewa

    Your total is the item price + delivery fee + Rs. 20 platform fee, shown before you pay. StudySwaps holds the money; it is not handed to the seller straight away.

  4. We collect it and deliver it

    The seller hands the item to StudySwaps. We check it and deliver it to your address, and you can follow every step on your order page. You and the seller never meet or share addresses.

  5. Check it and confirm

    Check the item when it arrives and confirm it in the app. If something is not as described, report it from your order page as soon as you receive it. See refunds & returns.

For sellers

Turn things you no longer need into money, without meeting anyone.

  1. Sign up

    Create a free account. Anyone can sign up; identity verification is only asked for when you start selling.

  2. Verify your student ID, once

    Your device camera takes two live photos: the front of your student ID card, then a selfie holding it. Uploads from the gallery are not accepted. The photos are stored privately and reviewed by our team, usually within 24 hours.

  3. List an item

    Add a title, description, condition, price, the pickup address and 1–3 real photos of the actual item. Start a listing.

  4. We approve your listing

    New listings are reviewed by our team before they go live, and you are notified once yours is approved.

  5. Get an order

    When a buyer pays, you are notified. Accept it promptly and have the item packed and ready.

  6. Hand it to StudySwaps

    You give the item to StudySwaps (or our delivery partner). We deliver it, so you never have to meet the buyer or share your phone number.

  7. Earnings become withdrawable on delivery

    After a sale your earnings sit as pending. They become available as soon as the order is marked delivered.

  8. Withdraw to eSewa

    Request a withdrawal to your eSewa number from Rs. 100. Requests are processed within 2 working days.

These are the same numbers used to price real orders, and your total is always shown before you pay.

Example: for a Rs. 1,000 item within 10 km, the buyer pays Rs. 1,170 (Rs. 1,000 + Rs. 150 delivery + Rs. 20 platform fee) and the seller earns Rs. 950, after the Rs. 50 commission. Full details in prices & fees and seller payouts.

Safety

  • Verified sellers

    Every seller passes a live ID check, a photo of their student ID and a selfie holding it, before their first listing.

  • Private ID photos

    Verification photos are stored privately. Only you and the small team that reviews verification requests can see them, never other users.

  • We stand in the middle

    StudySwaps is the mediator. The buyer's money is held by us, items travel through us, and buyers and sellers never see each other's address or phone number.

Common questions

Is it free to list an item?

Yes, there is no listing fee. When your item sells, StudySwaps keeps a 5% commission of the item price and you receive the rest. The delivery fee and the Rs. 20 platform fee are paid by the buyer and never taken from your earnings. Seller earnings & withdrawals

Who delivers the item?

StudySwaps does. The seller hands the item to us (or our delivery partner), we check it and deliver it to the buyer's address, so buyer and seller never need to meet, call or share their address. Delivery policy

How much does delivery cost?

Rs. 150 within 10 km, plus Rs. 25 for every extra kilometre, up to 100 km. The total is always shown before you pay.

How do I pay?

With eSewa, which is the only payment method. There is no cash on delivery. You pay on eSewa's own secure page, and the order is confirmed once eSewa reports the payment as complete. Payments

How do sellers get paid?

Your earnings are held as pending after a sale and become available as soon as the order is marked delivered. You then withdraw to your eSewa number, from Rs. 100 per request, and requests are processed within 2 working days.

Do buyers need ID verification?

No. Anyone can sign up and buy. Only sellers verify their identity, once, with two live photos: the front of their student ID card and a selfie holding it. Identity verification

Which cities does StudySwaps serve?

We currently serve Kathmandu and Butwal. Delivery is available up to 100 km from the item's location, and more areas will be added over time.

What can't I sell?

Weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco and medicines, stolen or counterfeit goods, exam papers and cheating services, government IDs and bank cards, hazardous chemicals and live animals are not allowed. The full list is in our policies. Prohibited items
